Hi everyone!
This week on the show, we’re talking about navigating career transitions with Simone Stolzoff.
You can find this episode wherever you podcast!
Navigating changes in our career isn’t easy when we’re traditionally employed, and it’s certainly not any easier as a freelancer, when one assignment, one client, or maybe even one email can change what we decide to do next.
(I can tell you that every time a literary agent sends me an email after reading my magazine stories to ask if I’m interested in writing a book, a part of me imagines that life – even though I’m definitely not interested in writing a nonfiction book!)
Last season on the show, we talked about inflection points, which are slight adjustments that you can make when you feel you’re on the precipice of change. But today, we’re talking about some bigger swings.
After considering making a big change, we can sometimes feel stuck: the next steps might not feel immediately obvious.
To walk us through how to think about the next variation of our career journey, I brought on Simone Stolzoff. This is literally a thing he teaches!
Simone is a journalist and designer based in San Francisco who’s published in The Atlantic, The New York Times, and beyond. He’s also an expert on work. His first book, The Good Enough Job, is out this month on May 23. (And if you’re in the Seattle area, come join us on May 30 in conversation at Elliott Bay Books about it!) Simone has had a fascinating career himself, weaving from journalism to the international design consulting firm, IDEO, and back to media.
In this episode, he drops so much wisdom on how to go from an idea to action.
