You don't have to be alone in running your business
(In fact, work might feel better if you didn't go it alone!)
One of the biggest myths of being a solopreneur is that you have to absolutely go it alone when it comes to running your business. There’s this prevailing idea that you’re not just the person doing the work, but you’re in charge of your taxes, bookkeeping, marketing, research, and, well, everything.
All that puts the solo in solopreneur.
But what about the -preneur part?
Entrepreneurs, by definition, organize and operate a business. They tend to work on the business, not within the business. The taxes, bookkeeping, marketing, research I mentioned? Those are tasks that involve working in the business.
What if I told you that what you did within a business could be outsourced? Think about startup founders who start with an idea, a concept, and go out into the world to get it funded. Over time, they start building out a team of people so that they can delegate tasks so that their time is maximized by having executive vision over their business?
Over my last decade of working for myself and founding three businesses, I’ve learned that it doesn’t make sense to do everything myself. Some of the tasks I’d have to do would be miserable (if I edited the podcast myself, it might be completely unlistenable). For my editorial business, I have a CPA and an assistant. For TWC, I’ve hired a producer, podcast editor, and community manager. For my agency, I’ve outsourced my graphic design, web design, operations, and legal support. What that’s left me is time to have executive vision and a lot of time to think creatively about the work I want to achieve in all my three businesses.
You can have this too. I mean, think about the tasks you hate the most (we all have them). What would your business look like if you could just… pay someone else to handle them? And it doesn’t need to cost a fortune.
If you’re intrigued at all by building out your freelance team and having support — whether it be for research or social media or something else entirely — you’ll want to join us for TWC’s October event on how to best work with your freelance team. My guests — an experienced business owner and another experienced assistant— will teach you best practices on managing a team from two perspectives.
Signing up gets you a recording of the event, so snag your spot today!
